Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma Told To “Forget Big Cars, VIP Treatment”, Go Back To Domestic Cricket
Mohammad Kaif urges senior Indian cricketers to shun VIP treatment and return to grassroots by participating in domestic cricket matches.
The seniors of the Indian cricket team are haunted by the persistent absence of domestic cricket, as experts continue to intensify their criticism following the team’s 0-3 whitewash against New Zealand. Suggestions abound that players like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli could have improved by participating in the Duleep Trophy or even the ongoing Ranji Trophy. Former India cricketer Mohammad Kaif echoes similar sentiments, proposing that the top players relinquish their luxuries like luxurious cars, flights, and VIP treatment to return to grassroots domestic cricket.
Kaif believes that certain players should consider being present for the Ranji Trophy as Delhi prepares to face Chandigarh in an away match, and Mumbai is set to welcome Odisha in the upcoming fixtures, with the Indian team not departing for Australia until the week’s conclusion.
In a video posted on social media, Kaif emphasized the importance of structure and spending extended periods at the crease for players. He mentioned that achieving a century would greatly enhance their performance and uplift their spirits.
Kaif additionally posted a throwback to Rishabh Pant’s standout performance during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2020 series. Pant, who entered the team after scoring a century in a practice match, played a crucial role in India’s historic victory in Australia.
Here, let’s talk about Rishabh Pant. Despite not being selected for the ODI or T20I squad during the tour, he played a crucial role in India’s victory at Gabba by scoring the winning run. Initially overshadowed by Wriddhiman Saha in the Test series, Pant’s inclusion became necessary after India suffered the infamous ’36 all out’ defeat. It was Pant’s impressive performance in a practice Pink Ball match, where he scored a century, that ultimately transformed him into a standout player for the team.
Kaif has advised players such as Kohli and Rohit, among others, to leave behind the VIP culture and focus on participating in domestic cricket if they aim to revive their performance.
He emphasized the importance of players facing challenges in scoring runs and lacking sufficient game time to participate fully in domestic cricket. The luxury of fancy cars and flights, as well as VIP treatment, should be cast aside in favor of dedicating oneself to improving form through hard work.
