Odisha’s Revenue and Disaster Management Minister, Suresh Pujari, mentioned that over 5000 relief centers have been established in preparation for the evacuation of approximately 1 million people.

Enhanced safety measures have been implemented by the West Bengal administration in anticipation of Cyclone Dana’s arrival. The cyclone is forecasted to hit the coasts of Odisha and West Bengal, specifically between Puri and Sagar Island, during the night of Thursday, October 24, 2024.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee stated on Tuesday (October 22, 2024) that based on the India Meteorological Department’s findings, the depression forming over the Bay of Bengal could intensify into a cyclonic storm. She mentioned that the cyclone is projected to reach the coast between Puri and Sagar Island during the night of October 24 and the morning of October 25.

The Indian Coast Guard has declared a state of heightened readiness, deploying its ships and aircraft to promptly address any potential emergencies stemming from the cyclone expected to unleash heavy rainfall in the adjacent states.

Mohan Charan Majhi, the Chief Minister of Odisha, has called upon all MLAs to collaborate with the authorities in conducting rescue and relief efforts in preparation for the impending cyclone impact on Odisha.

The Chief Minister also mentioned that talks took place regarding the prompt reinstatement of power, water supply, telephone, and road connectivity. Hospitals will receive continuous electricity supply. The relevant department is vigilant in thwarting any attempts of hoarding or price gouging of vital goods.

Identified structures such as multipurpose cyclone shelters, flood shelters, and various buildings have been designated to provide refuge for the at-risk populace.
