Cyclone Dana Uproots Trees, Brings Heavy Rain In Odisha, 1 Dead In Bengal
Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi said there was no report regarding any loss of human life or injury due Cyclone Dana.
A person in West Bengal lost their life today as Cyclone Dana struck the Odisha coast, causing destruction by uprooting trees and cutting power lines in various regions. The cyclone reached land between Bhitarkanika and Dhamra, bringing winds of 100-110 kmph.

- The onset of Cyclone Dana’s landfall commenced on the Odisha coast at midnight, bringing wind speeds of 110 kmph and intense rainfall to districts such as Bhadrak, Kendrapara, Balasore, and Jagatsinghpur.
- The IMD provided an update around 10 am confirming that the landfall process had been successfully concluded, noting that it took a minimum of eight and a half hours for the system to make landfall.
- The weather agency stated that Dana, named by Qatar, is expected to gradually weaken over the next six hours.
- In Odisha, there were reports of trees being uprooted and certain areas being flooded. Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi stated that the state has successfully accomplished its “Zero Casualty Mission” as there have been no reports of any human casualties or injuries as a result of the intense cyclonic storm.
- A tragedy struck in the Patharpratima area of South 24 Parganas district in West Bengal where a cable worker lost his life while on duty during the storm. The cyclone’s effects were also felt in East Midnapore and Kolkata, leading to instances of waterlogging reported from various neighborhoods.
- The operations at Bhubaneswar’s Biju Patnaik International Airport and Kolkata’s Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport were temporarily halted on Thursday evening as a precautionary step, but they have now recommenced as of 8 am today.
- Both state authorities took extensive measures and evacuated hundreds of thousands of individuals, closed educational institutions, halted over 400 train services, and ceased flight operations in preparation for the intense cyclonic storm.
- The government led by Mohan Charan Majhi in Odisha reported the evacuation of approximately 580,000 individuals and the mobilization of 385 rescue squads, including National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force (ODRAF) 51, Fire Service, and Forest personnel.
- Mamata Banerjee, the Chief Minister of Bengal, reported that 243,374 individuals have sought refuge in camps.
