Maruti Suzuki, Qualcomm Join Forces for Use of Snapdragon Elite Chips in Vehicles: Report

Maruti Suzuki vehicles stand to benefit from enhanced infotainment systems, ADAS, and more with the integration of Qualcomm’s automotive chips.

Maruti Suzuki, the leading automotive manufacturer in India, has reportedly joined forces with Qualcomm to integrate the latest Snapdragon Elite automotive chips into their upcoming vehicle lineup. The specific objectives of this collaboration between the Indian branch of the Japanese car producer and the American semiconductor company have not been disclosed. However, there are assumptions that the innovative automotive chips from Snapdragon might drive a range of cutting-edge safety mechanisms, connected vehicle technologies, and other functionalities in Maruti Suzuki’s intelligent automobiles of tomorrow.

After having already established partnerships with Tata Motors and Mahindra & Mahindra, Qualcomm’s latest collaboration in India marks a significant milestone in their automotive ventures.

Maruti Suzuki Vehicles Equipped with Snapdragon Processors

During the recent Snapdragon Summit in Hawaii, Qualcomm revealed two fresh chipsets designed specifically for the automotive sector: Snapdragon Cockpit Elite and Snapdragon Ride Elite. These new additions are part of the Snapdragon Digital Chassis Solution lineup. A report by SmartPrix suggests that Maruti Suzuki vehicles may soon integrate one of these Snapdragon chips as part of their systems.

Qualcomm’s innovative Snapdragon Cockpit Elite chip enables cutting-edge digital experiences, whereas the Ride Elite chip facilitates automated driving functions. With a distinctive flexible architecture, automakers can integrate both functionalities into a single SoC. These chips have the potential to enhance vehicles with features such as infotainment systems, advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), real-time driver monitoring, as well as lane and parking assistance, although confirmation is still pending.

The two chips come with an Oryon central processing unit (CPU), an Adreno graphics processing unit (GPU), and a Hexagon neural processing unit (NPU). These processors enable platforms to achieve CPU speeds up to three times faster and AI performance up to 12 times faster than the previous flagship generation, enhancing in-vehicle experiences. Supporting more than 40 multimodal sensors, including a maximum of 20 high-resolution cameras for full 360-degree surveillance, these chips leverage AI-powered imaging technologies to produce superior quality images. They are also designed to seamlessly integrate with current and future automotive sensors and formats.

In 2025, Qualcomm plans to offer both Snapdragon Cockpit Elite and Snapdragon Ride Elite for testing purposes.
